Charles Elmer Clough ’52
Charles Elmer Clough ’52 passed away on November 29, 2019, at home in Concord, New Hampshire. Charlie was a New Englander to the bone. Born on August 7, 1930, in Concord, he grew up in Contoocook, New Hampshire. He graduated from Concord High School and Dartmouth, where he was a member of Zeta Psi and active as a musician with the Green Collegians, Handel Society, and Barbary Coast orchestra. He majored in business administration and received an M.B.A. at the Tuck School of Business. Charlie served in the Navy as a lieutenant and then began a successful business career. He started briefly at General Electric and then served for more than 30 years at Nashua Corp. (now Cenveo) in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he rose to president, CEO, and chairman of the board. One of his accomplishments was turning Nashua Corp. around in 1983 when the company faced bankruptcy. Charlie also was instrumental in bringing Matthew Thornton, the first health maintenance organization, to New Hampshire in the 1970s. He was active on the boards of Pennichuck Water Works, Hitchiner Manufacturing, the Bank of New England, the UNH Foundation, and Lawrence Academy, among others. A strong family man, Charlie is survived by his wife, Nancy; children Martha, John, David, Benjamin, Thomas, Christian, and Lindsay and spouses; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
