Charles Edward Lamb ’59

Charles Edward Lamb ’59 passed away on December 23, 2013, in Bristol Mills, Maine, surrounded by his loving family. Chuck entered Dartmouth from Lower Merion High School, in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, where he excelled at lacrosse, was on the student council and was assistant editor of the yearbook and an honor student. At Dartmouth Chuck majored in English and was a brother of Sigma Chi, a four-year member of the NROTC and associate news editor of The Dartmouth. While stationed in Hawaii he met Christine. They were married in 1960. Chuck left the Navy in 1962 and became a member of the Naval Reserve, from which he retired as a lieutenant commander. Chuck joined the executive training program at the First National City Bank (now Citigroup). He enjoyed a 30-year career at the bank, including a 10-year period in Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; and Manila, Philippines. In 1997 Christine and Chuck moved to Bristol Mills, where the family had summered. Chuck served on the board of the Penobscot School (Rockland, Maine), a school for language learning and international exchange, and for the Pemaquid Watershed Association (Damariscotta, Maine) that conserves the natural resources of the Pemaquid Peninsula through land and water stewardship. Chuck was an expert photographer and kept a professional studio and dark room in his home. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, making annual road trips to visit friends and family in all 48 contiguous states. His wife of 53 years, Christine, three children and five granddaughters survive Chuck.
