C. Richard Welsh ’57

C. Richard Welsh ’57 passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on June 29 in the mountain community he loved, Park City, Utah. Dick grew up in New Hartford, New York, and graduated from New Hartford Central High School. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a brother in Kappa Kappa Kappa, member of the Glee Club, and involved in intramural athletics. His career was in management consulting. He joined Arthur Young & Co and worked in Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, and Stamford, Connecticut. While in California he attended the executive program at the Stanford Business School. Following the merger of Arthur Young & Co. with Ernst & Whinney, he worked in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, office and was a partner of the new Ernst & Young Co. He traveled extensively on business assignments. He showed his loyalty to Dartmouth from 2006 until his death as an alumni fund volunteer (participation agent, regional agent, and fraternity-sorority agent). Dick was an avid runner. He loved to play tennis and to ski downhill and cross-country, especially in Colorado. In retirement he was active in community building, skiing, and travel adventures. Dick is survived by his wife, Charlotte, son Gregory, daughter Kimberly and her husband, and five grandchildren. A private ceremony was held in the mountains at one of Dick’s favorite spots.
