Bryant Hanley Jr. ’57
Bryant Hanley Jr. ’57 passed away on September 20, 2023, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Tim graduated from Brighton (Massachusetts) High School. He attended Dartmouth on a Navy scholarship and earned a combined A.B. and M.B.A. He was in Kappa Sigma and Green Key,and worked on Winter Carnival as ticket chairman. He served as lieutenant aboard USS Kidd, based in San Diego. His first job was in New York City as stock analyst for Piedmont Advisory, a private investment management firm. After a brief stint as a mutual fund portfolio manager for Anchor Corp in New Jersey, he moved to Dallas in 1972 to head Republic Bank’s trust department. In 1979 he and three partners founded Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney, & Strauss. Under his leadership as president, Barrow Hanley became one of the largest and most highly respected global investment firms in the country. He retired in 2000. In 1993 he and his wife, Nancy, purchased and restored a home designed by Texas architect O’Neil Ford. Considered to be architecturally significant, it served as the perfect setting to showcase a collection of Texas contemporary art. During the next 20 years they hosted countless events to celebrate and support artists and architecture enthusiasts. Tim served on the board of the Dallas Museum of Art from 1995 to 2015 (president, 2000-04). He was a fervent supporter of the D’Art Visual Arts center (now Dallas Contemporary). Tim was predeceased by Nancy. He is survived by daughters Laura, Barbara, and Sarah.
