Bartholomew Joseph Lombardi ’52

Bartholomew Joseph Lombardi ’52 passed away on June 29 in Guilford, Connecticut. Bart was born on July 31, 1931, in New York and graduated from All Hallows Preparatory School in the Bronx. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1952 and went on to earn his master’s in electrical and electronics engineering at the Thayer School in 1954. Bart was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He then served in the US Army for four years while earning his M.B.A. at New York University at night. He began his business career at IBM in 1954 and retired 35 years later in 1989. He went on to work for 20 more years in consulting, taught as an adjunct professor, and volunteered in his local community. Bart’s students, colleagues, and friends will treasure memories of his wit, generosity, warmth, grace, and love of life. Bart loved to paint, ski, and play tennis. He enjoyed jazz music and played the drums and piano. Throughout the years Bart has been an active member of the Dartmouth Alumni Association and attended many reunions and gatherings. He is survived by his wife, Ursula; children Bart (and wife Lillie), Cynthia, and Diane (and husband Eric); seven grandchildren; first wife Phoebe; stepchildren Whitney (and wife Jody) and Avenne; and four step-grandchildren. Bart’s late father, Joseph C. Lombardi, was class of 1923.
