Barry H. Tischler ’57

Barry H. Tischler ’57 passed away on July 15. “Tish” graduated from Barnard School. At Dartmouth he was premed, majoring in zoology, was in Gamma Delta Chi, played basketball for three years, and was in the DOC all four years. He graduated from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, in 1961; interned at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, in 1962; and completed four years of residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York. From 1966 to 1968 he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Fort Hood, Texas, with the rank of captain. In 1968 Tish began his career in private practice in San Pedro, California, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Well-known and respected, he conducted his practice for more than 60 years. He was affiliated with Providence Little Co. of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro and Torrance, California, recognized as among America’s best hospitals. In mid-career he was assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Through the years he enjoyed sports, the outdoors, travel, and music. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, and children Bradley, Brittany, Dana, and Kimberly.
