Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks ’12 hurls a pitch to Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis in the first inning of Game 7 of the World Series. Known as “The Professor” because he earned a degree in economics, the 6-foot-3 right-hander played a significant role in helping Chicago break its 108-year-old curse and finally win the Fall Classic on November 2 in Cleveland. (Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward also has ties to Dartmouth: His parents are Eugene Heyward Jr. ’81 and Laura Benjamin Heyward ’79.)
