Andrew E. Turner Jr. ’57
Andrew E. Turner Jr. ’57 died on April 22 in Mount Vernon, Virginia. Andy was born in Connecticut and graduated from Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, Connecticut. At Dartmouth he majored in geography, was a member of Sigma Chi and the Air Force ROTC, where he was on the drill team, drill sergeant, and cadet commander his senior year. He later earned a graduate degree from the University of Southern California. Andy achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and was a master navigator during a rich career that included flying in B-52s during the Cold War and nighttime reconnaissance flights in RF-4Cs during the Vietnam War, when he completed 100 missions over enemy territory. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and many other meritorious medals. After retiring from the Air Force, Andy worked for the Computer Sciences Corp. and Infonet, then launched a travel agency with his wife and partner specializing in trips to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He was a devoted volunteer in Rotary International, an active member of its Mount Vernon Club, and president and leader of its international exchange programs. In 2001-2002 Andy was honored to become Rotary district governor. He served Dartmouth as an Alumni Fund volunteer and class agent for many years. Andy is survived by Eleanor, the Sigma Chi sweetheart he married in 1957, and by sons Gary and Peter.
