Alfred Walter Acker Jr. ’52, Tu’53

Alfred Walter Acker Jr. ’52, Tu’53, passed away on February 9 in Niantic, Connecticut. Al was born on January 3, 1930, in Hartford, Connecticut, and graduated from William Hall High School in 1948. He earned his A.B. from Dartmouth and his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business. He was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. After college he served as an active and reserve U.S. Navy officer until 1967, when he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant. Al joined Price Waterhouse in New York City in 1957 and attained his license as a CPA. In 1966 he joined Citizen’s Utilities Co. in Stamford, Connecticut, as controller. In 1972 he joined Lone Star Industries in Greenwich, Connecticut, retiring in 1992 as vice president and general auditor. He and Judith Hartt were married July 13, 1963, and for many years lived in Fairfield, Connecticut, where Al was an active member of Trinity Church, Southport, serving on the vestry as treasurer. He was also a member of the Patterson Club and the executive committee of the Dartmouth Club of Bridgeport, Connecticut. In retirement Al and Judy relocated to Niantic and became members of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Black Hall Club. Again, Al became involved with the local Dartmouth club, serving as its treasurer. Al also served as tax collector and treasurer of the Oak Grove Beach Association. Al is survived by Judy; son Bruce ’86 and his wife, Elaine; son Jeffrey ’88 and his wife, Lara; and seven grandchildren.
