Alec Gray ’54

Alec Gray ’54 passed away April 27, 2024, in Monticello, Minnesota. Born in Washington, D.C., Alec attended school in Virginia, graduated from Mercersburg Academy, and went on to Dartmouth, where he earned a degree in history, served on the Athletic Council, was a brother at Delta Kappa Epsilon, and managed the swim team. After college, he served in the U.S. Army, conducting counter-intelligence work in Japan. He then started his business career in New York City, where he joined Pan Am agents and corporate clients. This took him to Minneapolis, where he met and married his first wife, Katherine. Son Sandy was born in 1966, followed by daughter Beth in 1969. He continued to lead the regional Pan Am sales team for 34 years, then continued in travel industry sales, eventually retiring from the Chicago Radisson Hotel in 1996. Alec always supported his children and grandchildren in their various activities and sports. Christianity was core to Alec’s beliefs. He served leadership positions at Gregory’s Episcopal Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham, Minnesota. After the death of his first wife, Alec married Mary in 1996. She survives, along with Sandy and Beth and their spouses; stepsons Mike, Chris ’91, Rob, and Chuck; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
