Albert E. Mayer ’63

Albert E. Mayer ’63 of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, passed away in Springfield, Massachusetts, on October 6, 2019, in the presence of his family. Al, the oldest of his siblings, grew up in Longmeadow and followed his father, Albert ’37, to Dartmouth. Other Dartmouth family members include brother Chris ’68 and nephew Zachary ’08. At Longmeadow High School he participated in football, baseball, and track. At Dartmouth he majored in English and was a brother of Alpha Delta during the “Animal House” years. After graduation he moved around the country and made several career changes. In later years failing health prompted Al to return to the Longmeadow area. Al loved dogs and the Washington Senators. At Dartmouth dogs regularly followed him, lured by the food he snuck out of the dining hall for them. When the Senators left Washington, Al went with them in spirit and regularly participated in discussions about who was the best player. Al is survived by his sister, Marcia, brother-in-law Glenn, brother Chris, sister-in-law Mary, nieces and nephews, and his dog, Tori.
