William T. Duvall ’57

William T. Duvall ’57 of Eastham, Massachusetts, died from congestive heart failure and pneumonia on December 26, 2021. Bill graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He majored in history and was a member of Kappa Sigma. He received his A.B. in 1957 and an M.B.A. from Tuck School a year later. After serving in the military, Bill joined U.S. Steel, moved to Pittsburgh, and married Roberta, with whom he had two children. In 1967 he worked for Roseburg Lumber Co. in southern Oregon. Another child was born. He took his family on camping trips, visits to national parks, motorboating, and sailing. His sense of adventure had him riding motorcycles, driving dune buggies, and skiing aggressive terrain in the Oregon mountains. He served on the school board. Changes in the wood products industry in the late-1970s prompted Bill relocate to Seattle to join Simpson Timber Co. as commodity trader and in investments. The family settled on Mercer Island, Washington, where they sailed on Lake Washington, hiked the Cascade mountains, and took advantage of cultural activities. He volunteered with the local parks department. Roberta died in 2012. Bill considered himself lucky when he reconnected with Joanna, who had lived next door in Pittsburgh. They hiked, kayaked, took many international trips, married in 2015, and relocated to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A loyal Dartmouth graduate, Bill was an Alumni Fund volunteer for more than 25 years. He is survived by Joanna, sons Mark ’83 and Ralph, and daughter Cathy.
