Wallace Woodworth Berry ’59

Wallace Woodworth Berry ’59 died on June 30, 2019. He entered Dartmouth from Pleasantville (New York) High School, majored in political science, and was a member of Delta Upsilon. Wally joined the Army after graduation, learned to speak Russian, and served as a translator, principally in Germany, for about three years. He then earned advanced degrees in political science from the University of California-Berkeley (master’s, 1963) and Stanford (Ph.D., 1970). Beginning in about 1966, he taught political science, history, and social sciences at the college and high school levels in California. In the early 1980s Wally changed careers and joined Coldwell Banker in commercial real estate and property management in the San Jose area. In 1989 he established his own company in the property management and business brokerage fields, ABE Business Services. He lived the last 10 years of his life in the Veterans Home in Yountville, California, and actively promoted veterans’ health issues. He leaves, from his previous marriage to Rose, daughter Steffanie (and her husband, Rich), son Adam (and his wife, Karla), five granddaughters, and sister Marion.
