Thomas H. Schwarz ’57
Thomas H. Schwarz ’57 of Sheffield, Massachusetts, died on August 12 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Tom graduated from White Plains (New York) High School. At Dartmouth he was part of the three-two program, majored in economics, was a member of Theta Delta Chi, and played tennis. He earned his M.B.A. from Tuck School in 1958. Tom began work in advertising in New York City, saying, “The business has always been fascinating to me. The product we put out, the people who are in the business, the way we go about getting ideas and putting them on paper or making them into television commercials.” There was glamour and flying to Los Angeles to shoot commercials with movie stars. In midlife he changed careers, joining Judd-Falk Inc., an executive recruiter specializing in consumer goods marketing personnel for Pillsbury and Pepsi Cola. Later he opened Schwarz Executive Search Inc., saying, “Search is like solving a crossword puzzle every day. Where will I most likely find the right candidate? How will I convince that person to leave where they are and join my client’s firm?” After 25 years Tom and Susan retired to their Berkshires, Massachusetts, home, where they hosted a memorable pre-60th reunion party. Tom served the College as class president, Dartmouth College Fund volunteer, and admissions interviewer. He was well known as editor of the 25th and 50th reunion books. Tom is survived by Susan, son Douglas ’81, stepdaughter Joanna, and their families.
