Steven Boyd Franzeim ’68

Steven Boyd Franzeim ’68 of Harvard, Massachusetts, died January 18 of complications from a stroke. Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, in 1946 to Fred and Isabelle Franzeim, Steven grew up in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. An engineering science major at Dartmouth, Steve played soccer and was a member of Psi Upsilon. Steve spent most of his career working as a software engineer. A devoted husband and father, Steve had a playful intelligence, good humor, and curiosity. He joked that the season’s pass he earned working at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, was the accomplishment his fraternity brothers would most admire. He married Christine on June 19, 1971. They explored the country from coast to coast and shared their love until her death in 2014. Steve valued the friendships he made throughout his life. Steadfast and thoughtful, there was no favor asked of him that he would deny. He had an inexhaustible willingness to share his home and his heart with others. Steve’s interests included a passion for ceramics, a talent nurtured by his instructor, Makoto Yabe at DeCordova Museum. An avid sports enthusiast, he played soccer well into his 60s with the over-the-hill league. He enjoyed coaching his children’s teams and was exceptionally proud of his role as coach of his daughter’s team that won the state championship in 1995. Steve is survived by son Paul; daughter Emma and her partner, Josh, and stepdaughter Adelheid; sisters Widge and Barbara; and extended family.
