Stanley Wright Brown ’67

Stanley Wright Brown ’67 died on January 19 in Lebanon, New Hampshire, after a long illness. Stan came to the College from Lexington (Massachusetts) High School, majored in English, worked on Greensleeves, and sang in the Glee Club. After graduation he received an M.A. in English at Queens College at Oxford University and an M.S. from Simmons College. He then returned to Hanover to work as a librarian at Baker Library, where he remained for 32 years until his retirement as curator of rare books, emeritus. In retirement Stan pursued his love of reading both fiction and history and maintained his interest in antiquarian and fine press books. A life-long Red Sox fan, he was delighted to have his loyalty rewarded in recent years. Most of all he loved the English language, unusual and often obsolete words, and use of the Oxford comma. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Molly”; daughter Jennifer and her husband, Dave; daughter Alison and her husband, Bob; grandchildren Daniel, Becca, Matthew, and Jack; 103-year-old mother Lois Wright Brown; brother Peter and his wife, Nancy; sister Prudence and her husband, Robert; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Sanborn Conner Brown ’35, in 1981.
