100 Years of Pooh
New York Public Library director of research celebrates 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh.
Winnie-the-Pooh has been delighting children for 100 years. Author A. A. Milne based the beloved character and his woodland friends on his son’s own stuffed animals. Those original stuffed toys now live at the New York Public Library, where Brent Reidy works as director of research. “When people come through these doors, the first thing they do is make a beeline for Pooh and friends,” Reidy says. Last spring, a replica of Roo, one of Pooh’s friends, was gifted to the library by Queen Camilla, while on a visit to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary of independence.
