Stuart A. Kornfeld ’58 , M.D., passed away August 17, 2025, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was a professor emeritus of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and was a renowned hematologist who pioneered the field of glycobiology during his distinguished 58-year career. Born in St. Louis, Stu lived his whole life in that area. At Dartmouth he was a member of Pi Lambda Phi, majored in zoology, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He completed medical school at Washington University in 1962, followed by a residency in internal medicine and two years doing research at the National Institutes of Health. He joined the WashU Medicine faculty in 1966. Stu was a lifelong avid St. Louis Cardinals fan with an encyclopedic knowledge of the team from the 1930s to the present. A natural athlete, he played tennis and golf for decades. Stu’s wife, Rosalind, also a professor at WashU, predeceased him in 2007. A daughter, a son, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren survive him.
