Richard T. Bilinsky ’58 , M.D., died on March 20. Dick was born in New York City and was senior class president at Stuyvesant High School. At Dartmouth he majored in psychology and premed, sang in the Glee Club, worked at WDBS radio and was treasurer of Tau Epsilon Phi. He studied medicine at Chicago Medical School, followed by an internship, residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in nephrology at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Dick served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force in Texas 1964-66. He then began a medical practice in hemodialysis at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois, and served as director of nephrology for 10 years. After a two-year interval in Oak Brook, Illinois, working in research and development, Dick returned to Springfield and opened a private practice in internal medicine and nephrology. In 1990 he built a state-of-the-art dialysis center in Springfield, followed by one in Lincoln, Illinois. Aside from patient care, Dick enjoyed participating in the Junior League Follies and Medical Madness Productions, often writing “irreverent” lyrics to popular songs. In retirement he began sculpting, first in stone, then in clay that was cast in bronze. His work is displayed in several galleries, public and private institutions, and homes in the United States and abroad. Dick brought art into the hospital environment with rotating exhibits and permanent donations to local hospitals. His wife, Elizabeth “Bette,” survives him, along with two daughters, one son, and six grandchildren.
