May-June 2026

Richard M. Lenio ’58 passed away November 14, 2025. Dick grew up in Rome, New York, and lived most of his adult life about 100 miles west of there, in Pittsford and East Rochester. He majored in mathematics, played hockey all four years, and was a member of Tri-Kap and the Newman Club. After graduation he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later earned a master’s at Colgate. Starting in 1964, Dick was a math teacher at Pittsford Sutherland High School and, after eight years, became assistant principal until retirement 21 years later. He said, “My life has been simple yet deeply satisfying. By accident I became a teacher and never looked back. I loved the challenge of teaching, the classroom dynamics, and reaching out to each student with encouragement and support. In 1972 I became a high school assistant principal and confronted the world of drugs, alcohol, broken homes, dysfunctional families, and learning disabilities.” After retiring, Dick volunteered with Pittsford’s Elementary Express and St. Louis (Catholic) Church. He was a fervent fan of the Buffalo Bills and loved camping and hiking in the Adirondacks as well as science fiction books and shows, especially Star Trek. Dick is survived by his wife, Karen, two daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren.
