George F. Kain Jr. ’57 died in Reston, Virginia, on September 20, 2025. George graduated from Teaneck (New Jersey) High School. His major was botany. He was active with the Dormitory Committee (chairman), Interdormitory Council, D.O.C., and Navy ROTC. His storied life included 30 years of decorated military service, beginning with combat patrols aboard the destroyer Frank E. Evans during the second Formosa Strait crisis and including involvement with operations in Vietnam and Grenada. He was the second commodore of the Naval Inshore Undersea Warfare Group Two and long advocated for the fast-attack riverine and coastal capabilities of the U.S. Navy. He was placed in charge of developing the protection plans for New York City and its harbor and later in charge of naval surface warfare for the chief of naval operations. He worked for Bell Telecommunications, Sperry R&D, Unisys, TRW, EWA, and Sprint and was president of his own corporation, largely dealing in government procurement and sourcing operations. George was one of the founding fathers of the planned community of Reston. He was treasurer for Reston Association and president of Reston Citizens Association. He mentored young boys as assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 673 in Great Falls, Virginia, and baseball coach in Reston Little League. George is survived by his wife, Sylvia; and children James, Erin, Jeff, Jerry, and George. Daughter Kendall predeceased him.
