Charles H. Cowperthwaite ’58 died on December 31. “Kit” was born in Denver and lived most of his life there. At Dartmouth he majored in English, was vice president of Kappa Sig, and was active with the ski patrol and DOC. He earned a law degree at the University of Colorado in 1961 and then joined the Army Judge Advocate General Corps for a four-year assignment in Munich, Germany, completing his service as a U.S. Army captain. Returning to Denver, he embarked on a 25-year career in private law practice, representing some of the country’s largest financial institutions and their real estate portfolios. In 1993 Kit left his practice to pursue a new career of 36 years in real estate brokerage. He was president of the Denver Board of Realtors and the Colorado Association of Realtors and was inducted into the National Association of Realtors Hall of Fame. Among his favorite activities were bicycling tours, including Ride the Rockies and the MS 150, and he completed both many times. A friend said, “While he took his responsibilities seriously, Kit never lost his sense of fun and [was] known for his love of practical jokes delivered with impeccable timing.” Kit was an active alum, serving as class secretary for the first four years after graduation and as as an alumni fund volunteer for many years. Kit is survived by his wife, Ardy, first wife Barbara, and a son, a daughter, and a stepdaughter.
