Andrew Horton Nighswander ’60

Andrew Horton Nighswander ’60 of Marblehead, Massachusetts, died August 10, 2009, at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts, after a long illness. Andy was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, to the late Arthur and Esther Nighswander. He graduated from the George School in Pennsylvania, Dartmouth and Columbia Law School and was awarded the Alfred North Whitehead Fellowship at Harvard University. He had a distinguished career in healthcare management for more than 35 years. Andy held positions as assistant to John Gardner, the U.S. secretary of health, education and welfare, and as commissioner of the Massachusetts rate-setting commission. He was vice president of Arthur D. Little Consulting and at Lahey Hitchcock Clinic, president of R.E. Moulton Insurance and director of Cambridge Management Group until his illness. He is survived by his wife, Linda, children Peter, Andrew and Jessica, granddaughters Giselle and Cassandra, a sister, a sister-in-law, a cousin and several nieces and nephews. He loved his family, his friends and life itself.
