Charles E. Schroeder’57

Charles E. Schroeder’57, Tu’58 passed away on September 16, 2022. Chuck graduated from Evanston (Illinois) High School. He was part of the 3-2 program graduating from Dartmouth in 1957 and from Tuck School in 1958. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi (president), Casque & Gauntlet, Palaeopitus, Green Key, and the Interfraternity Council (president). He was drummer on the Indian Chiefs, playing on campuses around the Ivy league, at Carnegie Hall, on The Steve Allen Show, at the Savoy in Boston, at Jimmy Ryan’s in New York City, with Wilbur de Paris in New Orleans, and at the Elbow Beach Club in Bermuda during spring break. He was in Navy ROTC and completed his military service billeted in Key West, Florida, as third officer on a coastal minesweeper. Chuck returned to Chicago to join Miami Corp. as an investment analyst. He spent his entire career at Miami ultimately as president and CEO. His financial acumen led to serving on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital board as investment chair and Northwestern University board of trustees again as chair of investments. He was on the Fourth Presbyterian board and the Commercial Club of Chicago civic committee. Chuck loved racquet sports, playing squash, court tennis, and paddle tennis. He said it was the team camaraderie that brought him out to play. Family was the core of Chuck’s life. He is survived by Beth, his wife of 64 years, sons Chip and Tim, daughter Betsy, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
