Kenneth P. Brasted II ’57

Kenneth P. Brasted II ’57 died on May 7. Ken graduated from Wichita (Kansas) High School. He majored in economics, was a member of Chi Phi, active in the Dartmouth Outing Club and Mountaineering Club all four years, and was in Army ROTC. He served in Korea as a medical services officer (first lieutenant) from 1958 to 1959. He attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, earning his M.B.A. in 1962. A first job was at StarKist Tuna in Long Beach, California, doing international projects. When StarKist was bought by H.J. Heinz he returned to hometown Wichita and became executive vice president of Mid Kansas Federal Savings Loan, founded by his grandfather. He worked alongside his two brothers and became bank president. During the next 25 years the siblings experienced tremendous growth until the great crash of 1989. He went on to become a financial planner, working for First Securities, Morgan Stanley, Wachovia, and UBS, and retired in 2009. Ken was very active in community affairs. He cofounded Wagonmasters to promote area business and was its chairman 1969-77. He served as chairman of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce in 1979 and as chairman of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce in 1981. Ken kept ties to Dartmouth. He was a local club district enrollment director, 1979-80; alumni interviewer, 1986; and alumni fund fraternity/sorority agent, 1988-93. He is survived by Sherrie, his wife of 59 years, son Ken, and daughter Amy.
