Anthony Bruce Kane ’54

Anthony Bruce Kane ’54 died peacefully at home in Manhattan on May 5. Tony attended Columbia Grammar Preparatory School in Manhattan prior to coming to Dartmouth, where he majored in history and was a member of Pi Lambda Phi and the Interdormitory Council. He met the love of his life, Barbara Swarzman, on a teen tour at age 16 and they were married during Tony’s senior year and lived in Wigwam Village on the campus. Following graduation he went into the service and spent the bulk of his Army time in Europe with Barbara. After the Army he spent a brief time in his father’s clothing business and then transitioned into the executive recruitment business. Tony and Barbara then founded Anthony Kane Inc., an executive search firm specializing in the financial area. His firm had several offices on both coasts and was initially an exchange listed company. Tony also enjoyed late careers as a model and as an actor, appearing in several off-Broadway productions. Tony served Dartmouth as an alumni interviewer, class agent, regional agent, class secretary, mini-reunion chair, class newsletter editor, and volunteered with the worked class internship program. Tony’s first wife, Barbara, predeceased him and Tony found his second love, Sonja Rand, later in life. His passions in life included skiing, attending cruises, and reading. He loved the summer home in Sag Harbor on Long Island, New York, that he and Sonja enjoyed for many years. He was devoted above all to daughter Susan and grandson Jake, who survive.
