Melissa Baten Caswell ’86

Melissa Baten Caswell ’86 of Palo Alto, California, died on February 6 of pancreatic cancer. Melissa received her A.B. in psychology and her M.B.A. from Tuck in 1990. Melissa was involved with the Aegis, Kappa Kappa Gamma, a French language study abroad in student workshops, and the cheerleading club, most memorably as the top of the pyramid. She was an alumni interviewer and an alumni fund volunteer as a participation agent and class agent. Melissa was from White Plains, New York, and moved to Palo Alto, California, in 1990 with her husband, Lee, Tu’89, whom she met at Tuck. She worked in marketing roles for companies including Apple and Sun Microsystems, then left tech to spend more time with her children. She was a longtime community volunteer, serving as a member of the Palo Alto Unified School District board for many years, PTA Council president, and founding board member of the nonprofit Youth Community Service. Melissa had a love of art, painting and creating jewelry, and cooking, baking pastries and her specialty, sherry cake. She is survived by Lee, children Helena ’17 and Hollis, sisters Amanda and Blythe, and mother Susan. She was predeceased by her father, Marvin ’56, Tu’57. Donation in Melissa’s honor may be made to Adolescent Counseling Services (https://acs-teens.kindful.com).
