John W. Ballard ’55

John W. Ballard ’55 passed away on April 30 in Los Altos Hills, California. He is survived by children John, Ann, Kathy, Nary, Christine, and Cynthia as well as grandchildren John, Monica, and Kelsey. John came from Denver, Colorado, where he attended East Denver High School. He enrolled in the Tuck-Thayer program, which enabled him to earn an M.S. in engineering and an M.B.A. John was a member of Theta Delta Chi, Ledyard Canoe Club, the swim team, and Navy ROTC. When he completed naval flight school, John was assigned as a lieutenant, j.g., to an electronic countermeasures squadron. In 1968 John cofounded TSI, a company that became a world leader in antenna design and surveillance systems. John received the Dartmouth Alumni Award for his contributions to U.S intelligence and to the College as chairman of the Thayer board of overseers.
