John G. Tansey ’57

John G. Tansey ’57 passed away on March 11. Jack was born in Tampico, Mexico. His family moved to Venezuela when he was a child and he attended Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of Phi Tau and the Athletic Council (manager, cross country). He graduated with honors. Jack served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. In his career he was general manager in Mexico and Central America for the Pillsbury Co., then regional manager in Latin America for Black & Decker for many years. He went on to establish a business as a professional services employment recruiter, from which he retired. Jack is remembered for his warm smile and sense of humor. He enjoyed summertime vacations with his family in Avalon, New Jersey, where he loved to fly kites for the children at the beach. He played golf and tennis. He read widely in history and geography and was a gardener. He was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. His loyalty to Dartmouth was expressed as a long-term club officer (1973-2002), including as president of his local club. Jack is survived by Anne, his wife of more than 60 years; daughter Kimberly; sons Michael and Sean; and grandchildren Rebecca and Eric.
