James F. Davies ’63

James F. Davies ’63 passed away peacefully on June 21. He was born in East Rochester, New York, and graduated from East Rochester High School. At Dartmouth Jim received an A.B. in architecture and was an active Alumni Fund volunteer. He went on to earn a master’s in city planning and urban studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1965. Jim remained in the Cambridge, Massachusetts, area and founded Architectural Resources of Cambridge (ARC), where he was senior partner for 40 years. He specialized in executing master plans and large projects for corporate and academic campuses. Beautiful ARC-designed buildings grace several cities and schools in the Northeast, including Dartmouth, Amherst, Brown, and Williams and the Harvard Kennedy School, and the U.S. embassy in Seoul, South Korea. Jim also founded Labmark, a company that makes laboratory benchmark systems. Jim and his wife, Katie, settled in Concord, Massachusetts, where they were tennis and boating enthusiasts, and they kept a boat in Boston Harbor. After Jim retired they established a winter residence in Naples, Florida. Jim is survived by Katie, two children, and three grandchildren.
