Earl Winfield Glazier Jr. ’59

Earl Winfield Glazier Jr. ’59 died on November 27, 2015. He entered Dartmouth from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, majored in economics and was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Dragon. Earl’s football career at Dartmouth ended with an injury suffered during his sophomore year, and he turned his athletic talents to rugby. During his junior and senior years he became an integral member of the rugby team that, in December 1958 under the banner of President Eisenhower’s People to People Sports Program, traveled to England and was extremely competitive against of a number of British rugby teams. Earl’s association with Dartmouth rugby continued throughout his life, and he returned to Hanover for both the dedication of the Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse in 2005 and the dedication of the new scoreboard at the rugby facility in 2010. Following graduation from Dartmouth Earl was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Marine Corps and served for three years. In 1962 he began a long career in international banking, first with CitiBank and later with First Chicago (which became Bank One). During his banking career Earl worked on five continents: Asia, Africa, Europe and North and South America. He retired from banking in 1998 to become for many years the principal caregiver for his wife, Kathryn, who died in 2008. He leaves children, Earl III, Wendy and Matthew and four grandchildren.
