David Preston Griggs ’52

David Preston Griggs ’52 passed away peacefully at his home in Pickens, South Carolina, on March 31 surrounded by his family. Dave was born in Hanover and graduated from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, and from Dartmouth in 1952 with an A.B. in English. After college Dave served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Then, after one year as a professional yacht sailor, he joined the Diehl division of Singer Manufacturing Co. In 1960 he was transferred to Pickens, serving in sales and sales management. He left Singer in 1968 and went into business for himself as a manufacturers representative. He was president and CEO of his company, Griggs Associates, until his retirement in 1993. Dave was also active in sales management with the Manufacturers’ Agents National Association (MANA). He served on the board of directors of MANA, including service as president and chairman for two years. Locally Dave served his community as president of the Pickens County Country Club and was past chairman of the Pickens County Red Cross. For many years he was active with Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens and served on the board of directors, two years as chairman. He also served on the board of directors of the Cannon Memorial Hospital Foundation. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois, daughters Sandee, Suzi and Lynda, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and brother Sam.
