Conrad Scotland Young ’43

Conrad Scotland Young ’43 died April 12 in Omaha, Nebraska. At Dartmouth “Con” majored in psychology, was a member of Delta Tau Delta and Bones Gate, won his letter in varsity soccer, was active in boxing, track and field, swimming/diving and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated magna cum laude. Ever loyal to Dartmouth, he later served on the Alumni Council representing Nebraska and Iowa. He was also a class agent and a member of the class executive committee. Immediately after graduation Con went to the midshipman school at Notre Dame. He saw duty as a skipper on sub chasers in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Returning from the service Con spent a year in the food industry before joining Mutual and United of Omaha in 1948. He started as a health insurance underwriter, transferred to sales and became president of United in 1974. In 1984 he became senior executive vice president of Mutual of Omaha and later a member of the board of directors. He retired in 1987. Con was active in many civic organizations, particularly the Boy Scouts of America, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and All Saints Episcopal Church. He received many awards including the American Heart Association Distinguished Service Award in 1967. He was named the Nebraska Health Citizen of the Year in 1983 and received the YMCA Outstanding Volunteers Award in 1985. Con is survived by his wife, Muriel, daughter Linda and two grandsons.
