Happy New Year to all. This column is short as I’m still back in 2022, and my father passed away mid-September after battling dementia for five-plus years, including two in memory care.

I’m writing this in August, but by the time it comes out I will have been commuting from Bentonville, Arkansas, for my work in Walmart marketing back and forth to Redondo Beach, California.

And just like that…two months have passed by since my prostate surgery, and recovery has been pretty swift. I’m super-grateful for my family and friends. Again, please get a PSA blood test with your next physical.

Still opening holiday cards, and our holiday card this year looks good, complete with me in my 30th reunion ’89 vest. It’s great to see cards from friends and classmates and reconnect.

It’s still fall here in Southern California (as much as it can feel like fall when it’s in the mid-70s) and I’m still a marching band roadie for my high school daughter.

By the time you read this, we will have been holding our weekly ’89 Zoom meetings for more than a year; we started them on the 89th day of 2020 as a way to celebrate our class, and through the pandemic they have been a great source of comfort for me
