Class Note 1938

Issue

Jan - Feb 2017

Good tidings to my very dear comrades of the class of 1938. As I write this it is the day before Halloween and tomorrow is the big day for goblins, black cats, horrifying costumes—oh, yes—we all remember it so well! But “our time” was certainly different from this “current time,” but time marches on.

I must apologize for the lack of a 1938 column in the last magazine—I just didn’t have any news and sometimes feel like I’m boring you with my recollections.

I can tell you that Class Officers Weekend was celebrated Friday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24. I did not attend as, quite honestly, I didn’t receive any information pertaining to it—I knew when it was only by searching the web. The only news I could find was of those individuals who received their most deserved awards and it is truly an outstanding event recognizing those officers who work hard for their class and their college.

Because of the memories afforded me through the members of the class of 1938, who shared with me their experiences during their incredible four years (1934-38), I will always love Dartmouth. When they would talk about their feelings and emotions, how they were so grateful for the opportunities afforded them during a very difficult time in history, the camaraderie of everyday events, the emotions felt when they would beat Harvard or Yale at the football game, a feeling that could not be put into words, but rather lit up their eyes and brought tears to so many and to me—this is the “experience” of Dartmouth. It’s too bad things and times must change.

I pray that all of you had a truly enjoyable and blessed holiday season. I think of you so very often and it always brings a smile! Stay well and wah hoo wah!
