Class Note 1938

Issue

May - June 2010

As you read this it is sometime in May—the winter blahs are over and our thoughts turn to spring flowers, sunny days and a sigh, which basically says, “I’ve made it through another winter.” At least that’s what we northerners are saying!
Back at home at the Big Green preparations are being finalized for the long-anticipated commencement for the class of 2010. College administration has the program down to a “T,” parents are counting their blessings and departing seniors are facing the days ahead with excitement, apprehension and future expectations—and perhaps maybe just a little stress. I can only imagine what you were thinking back in May/June 1938—times were very much like today; uncertainty in the world and uncertainty in your future. The one constant is the feelings and emotions you and the class of 2010 have leaving what had been your home for four years. Don’t let the old saying “you can never go home again” fool you: Hanover and Dartmouth College is like Neverland—it will always be your home, it will always be there. Just follow the “green brick road” and signal lights that are saying go on green.

Although I haven’t spoken with anyone, I did receive a message from Dick Holt on the passing of one of our beloved classmates, Dave Duffy. I’m hoping that many of you will remember Dave and his dear wife, Faith. They were most wonderful participants of several (if not all!) of our mini-reunions years ago. A truly loving and devoted to each other couple. I remember them oh so well—like it was yesterday. Deepest sympathy to their family. I didn’t speak to Dick, as I was recuperating away from home due to a fall that broke and shattered a wrist—cast from finger to elbow!
Don’t forget to take the time to smell the flowers.
