Class Note 1968

Issue

November-December 2026

Class Note 1968. Most communication from class memorialist Dave Gang necessarily involves notices of passings and the loving obits he writes. Fortunately, he’s also very involved with other activities; not just remote committee meetings but also in-person mini-reunions, such as the annual session of the Berkshire, Massachusetts, lunch crew. Dave, Sherwood Guernsey, Don Marcus, Peter Hofman, and first-timer Peter Weston shared suds, sandwiches, and reminiscences at Antimony Brewing in Lenox on August 4. Dartmouth roommates were recalled, the coming midterm elections were stressed, and commiserations regarding the physical challenges of turning 80 were shared. Gang has also been conducting arrangements for mini-reunion activities at a Ron Weiss memorial concert by the Springfield (Massachusetts) Symphony on October 24. Also, a photo of a micro-reunion lunch between Bill Zarchy and Bob Reich came via a Dave Stanley email.
For his part, the other Dave memorialist, David Peck, spent that August 4 as chair of the arts legacy committee (ALC) by conducting an ALC meeting attended via Zoom by CedKam, Jim Lawrie, Jay Cary,Norm Silverman, Gang, and me. We’ve been active this year disbursing class funds for diverse educational support, and it’s all documented on the class website. Class president Kam also emailed information about our Alumni Council contact and solicited your input, and Cary posted information about the Hopkins Center fellows program.
Email interplay regarding other Dartmouth issues continues to prompt considerable classmate contact. Discussion, sometimes a bit impassioned, arose recently around the proposal to increase class size, with Mark Waterhouse, Clark Wadlow, Roger Lenke, Bob Ross, Peter Wonson, Gerry Bell, John Engelman, David Walden, Roger Witten, Eric Hatch, and Dick Olson offering input for and against. Warren Cooke wrote with support for the Tribal Sovereignty Institute launch.
Don’t worry; we also get lighthearted with each other online. It’s not all Dartmouth gravitas. For instance, Tom Stonecipher, Wonson, and I recently went deep on the imagery in Bob Seger’s “Night Moves.” If you know that song, you know Dartmouth men: The same stuff’s in their muscles and brains at 80 as it was at 18. Give a rouse!
