Class Note 2017. Happy fall, everyone! As I write this, we are exactly one month away from reunions, and when you receive this, we’ll probably be two to three months past wishing we were back. I’m sure I’ll get plenty of content for this column when we see each other in July, but for now please enjoy a few snippets from classmates I’ve had the pleasure of running into or reconnecting with during the past few months.
Dave “Nature” Klinges has been bouncing around the eastern seaboard. After wrapping up his Ph.D. at the University of Florida, he’s currently a postdoc at Yale continuing research on the impacts of climate change on wildlife, especially in the rainforests of Madagascar. It’s a spicy time to be trying to secure funding for climate change work, but he’s staying optimistic. Some recent research highlights include findings on how deforestation accelerates near-surface climate warming globally, and having a scientific journal publish his photo of rainforest geckos (actually, his pets) on its cover. Dave and his wife, Katie, tied the knot on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, during Memorial Day with a healthy showing of ’17s, including groomsmen Matt Mitman, Dan Finch, and Jack Kirsch. By the time this reaches your mailboxes, the couple will have moved to Philly, as Katie starts medical residency at UPenn and Dave starts as a professor at Rutgers in New Brunswick. Sarah Colon and I ran into each other at a birthday party in Colorado this summer, and she caught me up on her life out in New York. While she’s in the midst of planning her wedding to John Cofer ’15 (check back in 2027 for the Class Notes wedding update), Sarah shared that she was most excited recently to see friends Abby Reynolds and Allison Carswell for Allison’s baby shower! Congrats, Allison! I love a two-for-one life update.
