Class Note 2016. Hello, ’16s!
I’m currently chicken pecking this Class Note due to a terrific thumb injury as a result of trying to thinly slice a watermelon radish on a mandoline. Yours truly had to get seven stitches in the ER to reattach her right thumb pad. It’s given me lots of thoughts about thumbs, such as, isn’t it amazing how opposable thumbs allowed us to evolve—to the point our big brains could design and use a mandoline? Alas, not enough evolution to where we use the guard? Fellow chefs, be careful lest you end up waxing lyrical about fingers, too!
My freshman floormate Alexandros Zervos is leaving the East Coast. Alexandros received his M.B.A. at Columbia Business School with dean’s honors with distinction—that’s top 5 percent! Whoo-hoo! He’ll join Amazon’s M.B.A. leadership development program in Seattle. Alexandros was also super sweet to stop by and visit Ivy Shen and yours truly while on a long layover in Raleigh, North Carolina. Good luck and hope you enjoy the West Coast!
Penelope Williams writes in that she was promoted to engagement manager at McKinsey and is moving in with her boyfriend Nathaniel in San Francisco. She notes that Nathaniel is a “Harvard ’17 but we forgive him—and he’ll be at reunions this summer!” I hope y’all enjoyed reunions and escaped with only good-natured ribbings. Penelope observed, “This feels like a busy and very adult time with classmates whose weddings I’m a guest at and baby showers I’m bringing gifts to and brand-new houses in the ’burbs.” To all my fellow ’16s who are not feeling very adult yet, that’s perfectly fine as well. Personally, I’ve yet to attend a Dartmouth wedding or baby shower or housewarming. I’m just proud to still have all my fingers. Dear Bay Area ’16s, I hope you’ll reach out to Penelope (and Harvard boyfriend).
Dylan Krouse, our class vice president, and partner Robbie Tanner had beautiful baby boy Tate in April. But wait, there are more class council babies! Trey Rebman, our class treasurer, and partner Maria Abdo welcomed beautiful baby girl Magdalena on May 17. Congratulations to both happy families and wishing you many restful nights.
One final note, elections are happening for a new class president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. Please vote!
