Class Note 1959. Our Class Notes are mostly abbreviated obituaries of classmates who had successful professional and impressive community service careers. Unfortunately, I don’t have space to document their many meaningful contributions to their communities. David C. Patten died March 26 in his hometown of Westchester, Pennsylvania. At Dartmouth he majored in government and joined Alpha Theta Chi. He received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and practiced law for 55 years while serving many community organizations. He also served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He and Connie had three sons.
Donald A. Davies died April 26 in Worthington, Ohio. At Dartmouth Don majored in economics and joined Phi Gamma Delta, Sphinx, and the Newman Club. He received his law degree from Ohio State University, practiced law in Columbus, Ohio, and used his skills serving multiple community organizations. He and Janey had four children.
Robert“Lefty” Cline died May 10 in Seattle. He and Jim Mueller joined Dartmouth from Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and lived together their freshman year. Lefty played basketball and Jim football. Lefty’s jump shot was unusual. His left-handed jump-shot started from his left ear and looked weird, but he regularly made them and contributed to the basketball teams starting as a freshman. In his sophomore year Lefty, Jim Mueller, Rod Anderson,and I lived in North Mass. Jim and Lefty joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Rod and I joined Beta, which ended our living together as juniors. Lefty completed a degree in engineering at Thayer School and started a career with Chase Manhattan Bank before moving to Seattle and following a career in air freight. He led Airborne Freight to become a Fortune 500 company as its CEO. He and his wife, Judy, raised four daughters.
