Class Note 1958

Issue

September-October 2026

Class Note 1958. Your editor tripped and fell into our modern medical chasm with a broken hip! Nothing stays the ancient and venerable class of 1958 that is pleased once again to have achieved its primary goal for the Dartmouth College Fund (DCF). This becomes increasingly challenging as our numbers dwindle and memories wane with them. The whippersnappers behind us may scoff at the mere $240,000 raised, but their time will come! Our annual challenge has more become participation and, while at close to 50 percent we are perpetually in the top half dozen classes in that regard, our head agents Walter Vail, Hal Bernsen, yours truly (John Trimble), and Joel Portugal make it their top frustrating priority. Widows remain important contributors, for whom we’re grateful.
Another effort about which we’re increasingly proud is the relatively new Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund that has reached the threshold where it will be paired with four students. Your secretary and his wife were recently reminded of the importance of periodically reviewing estate plans and making adjustments, including those benefiting Dartmouth students. With the DCF year behind us, it’s a fine time to send a gift to the scholarship fund so we can gain a fifth pairing! Always active Tryg Myhren has shared a new book created by No Labels fictionalizing a dystopian consequence of the extreme partisanship wracking our political system. Read it and if it doesn’t scare you, life must be being scanned from the top of Bartlett Tower on an extremely clear day!
John Trimble, 2735 Golfside Court, Naples, FL 34110; (508) 737-7420; jtrim99@comcast.net
