Class Note 2012. Hi, ’12s! Happy Semiquincentennial, America! I hope you’re enjoying a big, juicy burger (meat or plant-based—we’re inclusive here!), a slice of blueberry (or apple) pie, and something cool to quench your thirst in these temps, like a crisp, tart lemonade (or some high-quality H2O, because hydration is key to surviving this heat).
But amid your celebrations, please take a moment to reflect on the many strides we’ve made as a nation, and on the struggles and sacrifices shouldered by many whose names are long forgotten by history. We must continuously reimagine what this republic means and should mean to those who have called this land, “home,” well before any banners bedecked in red, white, and blue waved over its expanse, as well as to the newly arrived, brimming with hope, in search of opportunity, freedom, and a sense of belonging. On behalf of Mother Dartmouth, welcome to Club 250, America! Let’s all work together to ensure a future where “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” aren’t hollow ideals enshrined in a declaration of our nation’s independence from Great Britain but are guarantees within reach for every American and every American yet to be.
It’s a slow news day, but we’ve got some good news from the Golden State. Our own decorated trial lawyer, Ben Schenk, recently announced that the Schenk Law Firm, the law firm he cofounded with his father, Frederick Schenk, and aunt, former Congresswoman Lynn Schenk, merged with Lizerbram Law to create a unique full-service firm that blends plaintiff-side litigation and transactional business insights for their clients. Give a rouse!
If you’ve got updates, we want to hear them! Write me at 12.class.notes@gmail.com or send me a letter via carrier pigeon (or USPS) at the address below. We love hearing from y’all and want to celebrate whatever brings joy into your lives. Peace!
