Class Note 1986
Issue
March - April 2026
Class Note 1986. The time has arrived to register for the event of the year, the 40th reunion of the great class of ’86! Our reunion will take place in Hanover Thursday-Sunday, June 18-21, and you don’t want to miss it! Look for registration information in the mail. Whether you return to Hanover frequently or have not been back since graduation, there will be plenty of events for all to enjoy. Spread the word and come reconnect with freshman trippies, language study abroad and foreign study program cohorts, dormmates, and fraternity or sorority brothers and sisters!
Now for some news about your fellow classmates. Daniyal Mueenuddin recently had his second work of fiction published. This Is Where the Serpent Lives is a story told through a series of linked narratives that follows three generations of Pakistani families that are connected by a farm in southern Punjab. The book portrays the anguish, betrayal, and triumph of everyday life while also depicting a country gripped by systems of caste, capital, and power. The story is full of interesting characters, including “an orphan who rises through Lahore’s social ranks, eventually becoming a trusted driver for an affluent feudal family; a beloved house servant turned farm manager who, over time, starts to skim money from the profits; a young teacher in love but marred by her grandfather’s disgrace; and the wealthy, educated landowner who is clinging to the security and influence his inheritance affords.” Daniyal’s first book, In Other Rooms, Other Wonders was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and The Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was a winner of the Story Prize.
In other news, Jane Su has retired following a career in finance. She is living in San Francisco and has two daughters, one currently at Thayer and one living in New York City. Jane lives down the street from Karen Blodgett, and they’ve been in touch with other classmates in the Bay Area, including Peter Westley, Brian Stretch, Greg Hulbert, Adelaide Pearson Hulbert, and Mark Sachleben. Greg and Adelaide have retired and are enjoying life now as grandparents. Mark lives in San Francisco with his wife, Linda, and spends time at Crystal Lake in Enfield, New Hampshire, during the summer when they get together with Karen, who also splits her time between the East and West coasts.
