Class Note 1971
Issue
March - April 2026
Class Note 1971. Ready for a great time? Our 55th class reunion June 15-18 is coming soon. All activities will be accessible and—most importantly—optional; mix and match as you choose! Here’s the tentative schedule.
Sunday, June 14 (day before reunion) we walk with the classes of 2026 and 1976 at Commencement. (Note: Campus housing unavailable until June 15. Day, dinner, and overnight is available at Moosilauke Ravine Lodge.)
Monday: Reunion 55 begins. Register at class tent near McLaughlin Cluster, then enjoy golf and tennis outings, ongoing grazing lunch at tent, tours of College facilities, info session on AI, dinner in Rockefeller Center courtyard, tent socializing.
Tuesday includes breakfast at the Class of ’53 Commons (“old Thayer”), talk by Dartmouth President Sian Beilock in renovated Hop, southwestern BBQ lunch, class memorial service at Rollins Chapel, College prof talk on friendship (with class survey results, see below), more tours, class photo and dinner on Baker lawn, tent socializing, DJStar Johnson’70.
Wednesday has breakfast at old Thayer; info sessions on healthcare, college athletics, and changes at Dartmouth; New England grilled picnic lunch at the tent; dinner at Thayer; Dartmouth Aires; tent socializing; “Vinyl Night” (bring your 45s!).
Thursday includes breakfast and tent. Reunion 55 ends 10 a.m. (Note: There are special-rate rooms available June 18-19 at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee, Vermont, with numerous activities available. See lakemoreyresort.com.) Our reunion registration form will go live on class website dartmouth71.org March 3. Final details there, including staying in our class dorm near the tent.
Meanwhile, please be sure to leave an entry on a great place you’ve been for our class reunion e-book, ’Round the Girdled Earth: The Places of the Class of 1971 (instructions on class website) and take our simple but important survey on reunion theme, friendship (see website, where you can also find our recent reunion print newsletter).
Led by Tony FitzPatrick and Jim Rager, your humble reunion committee hopes you will help set the record for highest 55th reunion attendance in college history. Remember, adopted ’71s, spouses, partners, family members, and friends are also welcome! Questions? Contact Jack Burnett at jckburnett@aol.com.
The Alumni Council recently honored former class president Peter Pratt with a 2025 Alumni Award, recognizing his service to Dartmouth and his community. Peter led class-wide efforts to create our 50th reunion tome as well as endow a growing number of class of 1971 scholarships. Peter chaired the D.C. alumni group and the Class Officers Association for many years and remains active in our class leadership. Classmate Nels Armstrong was a 2024 recipient of this important award. What a wonderful College-wide recognition of our classmates and class! A brief video of Peter’s presentation, also featuring Sam Cuddeback and Jeff McElnea, is at vimeo.com/1139399212.
See you in June!
I regret to report the passing of Fred C. Young on November 3, 2025. An obituary will appear in the DAM online.
