January-February 2026
Class Note 2017. Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already time for our 10-year reunion? Technically our nine-year, as we’ll be grouped together with the ’15s and ’16s. Reunions take place between July 24 and July 26, and registration information will be sent out soon. Specific information about our class events will come out through the Class Notes or our class president, Tara (Simmons) Rogers. Be sure to update your contact information so we can get in touch about any important updates! If you need help updating your contact info, reach out to the alumni help desk or shoot me an email and I can revise your file for you.
Back in August, Ellyn Golden competed in and finished the Leadville 100, a hundred-mile mountain bike race in Leadville, Colorado! The race involves grueling climbs, with more than 12,500 feet of gain, all while breathing in the thin Colorado air—the entire course is set between 10,000 and 12,000 feet! Brad Geismar, who traveled from Maine to be part of the support crew, said, “My favorite part was when she came from behind to beat Pat Saylor ’15.” (Yet more evidence that the ’17s will be the best class at reunions.) Jake Lyon, Ellyn’s longtime partner, was so impressed by the feat that he proposed to Ellyn the very next week—she said yes. Congratulations, Jake and Ellyn!
Speaking of Brad, give a rouse for his appointment as the assistant director of the Outdoor Programs Office (OPO)! Brad rejoins OPO following a stint as the executive director of the Colby Outing Club. He replaces longtime stalwart Rory Gawler ’05, who was a mainstay for anyone involved in the DOC during our time on campus. If you’re ever on campus, you can stop by to say hi in Brad’s office at Robinson 121.
Also in athletic achievements: Rosie (Mahoney) Eccher finished the Chicago Marathon in October with a time of 3:54:51! Rosie is currently living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and entering the third year of her residency program in obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Magee-Womens Hospital.
