Class Note 1991. Hello, ’91 superstars! Just when I thought I’d have nothing to report this month, Neel Chatterjee saved the day and provided the following awesome update.
“First, my wife and I just celebrated 25 years together. That’s a big change from my dateless Dartmouth experience! We have two kids, Cole and Aria. I continue to do high-profile technology litigation and have joined King & Spalding in Palo Alto, California, to colead and grow its intellectual property practice. Along my career I represented Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook against the twins, was Nvidia’s lead trial counsel during much of the smartphone patent wars, and represented Anthony Levandowski in the Google v. Uber lawsuit about self-driving cars. I am fortunate to have a front row seat on some of the greatest technical innovations (and the associated disputes) of our time.
“More recently, I stepped up to the plate during the attacks on law firms and formed a group called Law Firm Partners United. It started as a space for big firm lawyers to talk about the attacks on law firms and think about what we could do together. The group had wildfire success and now has more than 860 partners from the 200 largest law firms in the United States. Within two weeks of its founding, we formed a nonprofit, put together a media communications team, and started filing court briefs challenging the administration’s attacks on law firms. It was an amazing and inspiring experience.
“About a month ago, I learned that I am a finalist for the lawyer of the year award given by the American Lawyer. [We have since heard he won.] I am deeply honored by the nomination. My entire family will be attending the awards ceremony in New York in November. Of course, my engineer older brother, who is the acting chief medical officer for the Navy Reserve and a professor of medicine at Wake Forest University with a master’s in public health, is still the superior child. All I have going for me is that I am the better-looking one. There has been a lot going on in the Chatterjee world.”
Thanks for the update, Neel. Best of luck in November! And keep the updates coming, ’91s.
