Class Note 1966. Noteworthy milestones: Six classmates returned to campus in September to celebrate the 60th anniversary of our remarkable 1965 undefeated Ivy championship and Lambert Trophy-winning football season. Jon Colby, Ed Long, Gene Nattie, Roger Pezzuti, George Trumble, and Tony Yezer were joined by teammates from other classes—Noel Augustyn ’68, San Hawken ’68, Chuck Matuszak ’67, Tom Rath ’67, Gene Ryzewicz ’68, Skip Small ’68, and Bill Sjorgren ’67.
Our class Alumni Council rep, Albie McDonald, recently completed 20 years of volunteer leadership at Mass Golf, the nonprofit that runs state amateur golf championships throughout Massachusetts. It was “more about administrative duties than playing golf,” Albie confessed, “which was totally appropriate, since I’m a better caddie than a golfer.” Barry Machado was inducted into the Washington & Lee (W&L) University Athletic Hall of Fame in September as a member of the charter class of “Trailblazers.” No wonder. While teaching history for 35 years at W&L, Barry also found time to launch the women’s basketball team and coach the team for a few years. He later served as assistant men’s basketball coach. Could Barry be the first emeritus professor ever inducted into his or her school’s sports hall of fame?
A 100-year connection: Henry Hillson, class of 1930, was responsible for Hector Motroni attending Dartmouth. Now Hector’s granddaughter, Mackenzie “Cookie” Motroni, has committed to play field hockey for Dartmouth—in the class of 2030. More than 20 classmates were on hand for the 2025 Homecoming Weekend, which, due to drought conditions, featured a laser show in place of the bonfire. Saturday’s class meeting at Margo and Paul Doscher’s home in Norwich, Vermont, was enlivened by the Dartmouth Sings, and the Class of ’66 Scholar, government major Brooke Nind ’26, spoke at dinner at Jesse’s. Reunion cochairs Al Keiller and Budge Gere led reunion planning sessions. More details are coming soon. Registration opens in March for our 60th reunion June 15-18.
Our sympathies to the families and friends of classmates who sadly have recently passed: Tim Eagan, Robert Schwiesow, Win Stuebner, and Richard Tufaro. More on each at dartmouth.66.org and the online Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.
