Class Note 1959. More passings each issue. John Allbee died May 6, 2024. He joined Dartmouth from Warwick, Rhode Island, and Holderness school. John was active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon, ROTC, and WDCR and received an M.B.A. from Tuck. After two years in the Army, most of his career was in New England banking, then in Florida hospitality. Barbara, his first wife, died in 1995. He and Joann, his second wife, divided their retirement years between Florida and New England. He had two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Roger Ingram died December 6, 2024. He spent two Dartmouth years then completed his undergraduate and law degrees at Case Western Reserve. Sarah and Roger raised three daughters and had four grandchildren. He served as Medina City, Ohio, law director and county prosecutor and had a private law practice.
Charlie MacVean died September 10, 2025, in San Diego. He came to Dartmouth from Ridgewood, New Jersey, majored in engineering, and joined Alpha Delta Phi, Sphinx, and Navy ROTC. He completed a Ph.D. in nuclear science at Cornell. His naval career culminated as the legendary commander of the reconnaissance submarine USS Seawolf. A book, Down Deep, by John Freeman, chronicles Charlie’s life at sea. He served as our class secretary for several years. He and his wife, Ellen Marie, had three children.
Dick Masterson died October 2, 2024. He joined Dartmouth from Norwich, New York. After two years at Dartmouth, he spent two years in the military and then earned a B.A. from Colgate. Dick worked in corporate human resources before completing a law degree at John Marshal Law School in Chicago and the bar in New York. Besides serving as our class secretary, he decided equal employment opportunity cases for the federal government.
Steve Plank died June 17, 2025, in San Diego. He came to Dartmouth from Norwich, Connecticut, and the Loomis School. Steve joined Psi Upsilon, majored in economics, and played rugby. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he developed a career with Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co. He and his wife, Judy, restored a Norwich, Connecticut, vintage home and an office building. They moved to San Diego to be near son Derek.
