Class Note 1958. The class enjoyed a vigorous Homecoming Weekend even without a bonfire. We kicked off with our participation in the parade by bringing up the rear, not the usual place for such a golden group. That was serendipitous as we followed the class of ’25 whose banner was being carried by the just graduated granddaughter of Jane Yusen, widow of classmate Walter. Some of the class of ’25 stirred up cheering for our rag-tag group that enhanced the fun of the walk. A core of longtime loyalists attended even as we missed others who had to skip this year. Attending were Hal Bernsen, Mike Simberkoff, Walter Vail, John Trimble, Sam Silverstein, Ron Zwart, Craig Haines, Doug Fusonie, Dick Frisch, Sally Manuel, Ann Bradley, Mike Growney, Bob Downey, Sam Silverstein, and Hobbie VanDeusen.Being modern for a bunch of old goats, we zoomed the annual class meeting, and Larry Hampton, Tryg Myhren, Don McIntyre, Don McCree, Mel Croner, Scott Pardee, Jack Bennett, and Bob Blair tuned in from around the world and the United States. Involuntarily sitting on the sidelines was our longtime mini-reunion chair Frank Gould,who had last-minute but successful surgery just before the weekend.A highlight from the meeting was a donation received from a classmate’s matured life income trust that pushed us through the next threshold for the class scholarship fund and paired a third student. The class voted to donate $25,000 from its treasury to further enhance the fund, and that donation will guarantee a fourth student next year. All donations welcomed! We also continued our years-long class project support for athletic sponsors, Dartmouth Partners in Community Service, and Center for Professional Development. Duck Soup Catering provided our closing dinner again, and, again, no ducks were harmed in making that dinner! Sadly, we said goodbye to Stuart Kornfeld, Frederick “Skip” Coggin,and Coleman “Butch” Colla.
