Class Note 1957
Issue
January-February 2026
Class Note 1957. It’s October, but I’m told this will appear in the January/February issue of DAM. I’m just back from Homecoming. I had hoped to secure a new class secretary but no luck. If anyone would consider taking on the position you would enrich yourself and keep the class functioning. Please contact me if interested.
Homecoming stimulated a range of feelings. Howie Howland announced that only about one-third of us remain. That sad truth was obvious. Only six of us traveled to Hanover from afar, but we were fortunately joined by some who live nearby and others online. Though our numbers were small, it still felt wonderful to reconnect. We had cocktails at Arline and BarryRotman’s beautiful home, followed by dinner in White River Junction, Vermont. Some of those I remember in attendance were John Donnelly and Isabel Romero, Wendell Smith and Lola Baldwin, Happy Griffiths, Charles and Lorna Tseckares, Tom and Alice Macy, me and wife Lita Moses. The next morning Happy and Clark hosted us at their traditional Homecoming breakfast, cooked by their granddaughter and Al Rollins. We were joined by Mike and Jean Smith and Jane Bancroft (Monk’s widow). I know all of us greatly appreciate Happy’s efforts to keep our class together.
The large turnout for our reception at the Dickey Center showed me that our collaboration with the class of 1982, 25 years junior to us, is working out. It is enthusiastically supporting this year’s project: Ten students received training from Seeds of Peace in how to expand dialogue across differences. Their goal is to find a way to use their training to improve dialogue on campus. The Dickey Center reception gave us a chance to mingle with these students, ’82s, Dickey Center faculty, and one another. Three of us made it to the Homecoming parade and shared carrying the 1957 banner: me, Happy Griffiths, and Wendell Smith. We were the second-oldest class in the parade, with one member of the class of 1956 marching in front of us. I hate to see this space blank. If some of you would email me and tell me something about your life, I could have material for another column.
